Management and Staffing

Jacqui Satchell, the Proprietor & Manager, lives on the premises and is readily available to residents and their families at most times of the day. Matthew Satchell is also Proprietor and is a responsible individual who visits the home on a regular basis.

The home generally employs between 8 and 12 members of staff. Jacqui Satchell, Manager; Katherine Baldwin, Deputy Manager and Karen Halford Senior Carer lead a team of experienced staff. NVQ level 3 is being undertaken by three memebers of staff, whilst NVQ level 2 has been completed by another. Staff have also undertaken a variety of training including Food Hygiene, First Aid, Manual Handling, Abuse, POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults), Dementia, challenging behaviour and infection control. This ensures that our residents receive the high standard of care to which they are entitled.

The needs we cater for

We intend to meet the nutritional needs of the residents by providing three wholesome meals per day and offering a choice of main dishes. We are able to provide vegetarian, low fat and diabetic diets. Consultation would need to take place should other types of special diet be required.

We work in consultation with the continence service to manage continence problems. Hygiene needs are met through the provision of assistance in washing, bathing etc. plus full laundry service. We provide a warm, secure and comfortable living environment, ensuring accurate administration of medication, with appropriate reviews.

Minimalisation of risk by the availability of mobility aids, provision of grab handles, assisted baths, temperature controlled hot water supply, vigilance from staff etc.

We regret we are unable to accept admissions for Intermediate Care.

Daycare and Respite Services

We offer two further types of service to cater for the needs of other clients.

Our respite service offer the families of clients a break from the pressures of long term family care. We can offer short term residential breaks which provide the resident with a taste of our services whilst providing relatives some time away from the rigours of day to day care.

Our daycare service provides a means of support for those people with less support from friends and family. Clients can spend time with us during the day, benefitting from our daycare expertise.

Both daycare and respite services could form a prelude to a more permanent residency at White Waves. Potential clients would be able to precede a permanent stay with us, in the knowledge that their needs are fully understood by our trained staff & whilst forming friendships with others at the home.

MRSA

We regret we are unable to accept admissions from those known to have, or carry, the MRSA bacteria. Where an existing resident contracts MRSA, the Management team will review whether or not we are able to continue to accommodate the person.

Admission criteria

Admission is agreed only where Management considers the home is able to offer appropriate personal and communal accommodation and is able to provide sufficient and suitable staffing to meet the physical and emotional needs of the prospective client. The prospective resident and his/her representative will be familiarised with the services, ethos, conditions, contract, etc. of the home, and admission will only follow if all are in agreement.

Fire precautions and associated emergency procedures

The home is equipped with smoke detectors and an automatic fire alarm. The fire alarm both sounds and displays an illuminated bulb indicating the area of the seat of the smoke/fire. Extinguishers are sited in appropriate places. Fire doors are fitted with automatic closing devices, which operate in response to the fire alarm. In the unlikely event that a fire is detected, but the alarm has not sounded, this may be triggered by breaking the glass on one of the manual boxes.

All equipment is inspected and maintained in accordance with current regulations.

Advice is given by, and sought from, a Representative of the Fire Brigade, who also carries out inspections of the equipment and training. New staff are inducted into the Emergency Procedures for fire, and existing staff undergo regular refreshers.

In the event of a fire Emergency Services - (Fire) will be called immediately, the caller giving the name, address and telephone number of the Home, making it clear we are a Care Home for the Elderly in two storey accommodation. The Proprietor, Manager and all staff on duty will be made aware of the emergency. On no account is the lift to be used. Residents will be assisted to a place of safety, which may mean horizontal movement to another part of the Home rather than evacuation from the premises entirely. Those moved first should be those considered to be in the most immediate danger.

Belongings/possessions are not a priority for removal from the Home. Staff should take no unnecessary risks but attempt to impart a sense of calm amongst the residents. Smoke filled rooms should not be entered, nor fire extinguishers used by those untrained to do so.
